Jhajjar-Bachauli Wildlife Sanctuary

Jhajjar Bachauli Wildlife Sanctuary is situated 3 Km. from Anandpur Sahib city in the Government forest area of District Rupnagar. It has an area of 116.00 ha (i.e. 289 acres of which 218 acres area belongs to Village Jhajjar, 55 acres to village Bachauli and 16 acres to village Lamlehri). This area was declared as Wildlife Sanctuary vide Punjab Government Notification No. 40/3/98/Ft-IV/11500 dated 9-9-1998 under Section 18(1) of Wildlife (Protection) act, 1972 and final notification was issued vide Punjab Government Notification No. 34/31/03/Ft-IV/19747 dated 11-12-03 under Section 26A of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Sambar, Barking Deer, Hare, Jackal, Python, Cobra, Rat snake, Leopard (migratory) etc. are found here in this Sanctuary area.

Main wildlife species found in the sanctuary are Sambar, Barking deer, Hare, Jackal, Python, Cobra, Rat snake, Leopard (migratory) etc.
Important Flora
As per forest classification the sanctuary falls under the Dry Deciduous Forest type. The main tree species are Khair, Shisham, Subabul, Siris, Phalai, Ficus spp., Neem etc.
