Bir Dosanjh Wildlife Sanctuary

Bir Dosanjh Wildlife Sanctuary has been derived probably from its proximity to village Dosanjh. This WLS falls in the jurisdiction of Nabha tehsil of Patiala Forest Division (Wildlife) and district. It is situated on the Nabha-Chawdhary Majra-Jorrepul road at about 28-30 km from Patiala city and about 4 km from Nabha town.  The area is situated at 30°25' to 30° 27’ North latitude and 76°08' to 76° 10’ East longitude. The Survey of India toposheet number covering the sanctuary is 53 B/7 (Scale 1”= 1 mile). The total area of the Bir Dosanjh is 517.59 hectare as notified by Punjab Govt. No. 2026/Ft (IV)-61/3654, dated 5th July 1961 by the provision to sub section (3) of section 29 of the Patiala Forest Act, 1999 as second class forest. Bir Dosanjh WLS is divided into 26 Compartments for management purpose. Bir Dosanjh WLS is approachable both by road and rail. One can reach Patiala or Nabha by rail or road. And then can travel to WLS by road via Nabha town. Also one can reach Nabha town by rail and can travel by road to WLS. Nabha is 28 km by road from Patiala and WLS is about 4 km from Nabha. The entry to the sanctuary is from the Nabha-Chawdhary Majra-Jorrepul

Important Fauna
Main wildlife species found in the sanctuary are Blue bull, Jungle cat, Jackal, Rhesus Monkeys, Peafowl, Black and Grey Partridges etc.
Important Flora
As per forest classification of Champion and Seth, the forests in the sanctuary falls under the sub- group 5(B) Northern Tropical Dry Mixed deciduous forest type. The main tree species are Kikkar, Eucalyptus, Shisham, Khair, Phalahi, Jamun, Beri, Mulberry, etc.
